Culminating 2013, Philly Sound Sessions held its last music showcase of the year, last Tuesday, December 3, at Voltage Lounge, in Northern Liberties. The event was hosted by Trizzy the Mouth.

Known for featuring some of the City's dynamic acts, Philly Sound Sessions hosted a diverse showcase of musicians, MC's, dancers, and composers, who performed, and displayed, original songs and production.

In classic Philly Sound Session fashion, live music was a part of the event with drummer Joey Stix (Astronauts Really Fly), and sounds by DJ Jovi Baby.

The genres that dominated the night were rhythm and blues, female MC’s, live alternative bands, and instrumental hip-hop compositions.

The opening act featured VeNT (@TobyVent), an alternative rock/soul band, whose lead singer Toby blew audiences away with her powerful vocals and strong lyrics. The band’s robust sound provided an off kilter night for the seemingly hip-hop centered Philly Sound Sessions. Joe Jordan Express (@JoeJordanExp), a Philadelphia alternative band closed the night with their two-man, and one-woman drummer, might I add, band.

Just Frenchie (@JustFrenchie), petite MC, R&B singer, and dancer, began her performances with upbeat tunes that had the audience rocking! The West Philadelphia native had two back up dancers accompany her performance, providing additional listening, and viewing, pleasure for Sound Sessions’ audience. Kayla Enfiniti  (@KaylaEnfinitti1), another Philadelphia native, also provided a rhythm and blues set and even a soulful cover of Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop."

On the production side of things, NJ producer Charlie Heat (@GoodLuckCharlie) gave the audience one full track and two sample clips for our listening enjoyment. Both YaDad (@YaDadJB) and Hunnit Proof (@bullhunitproof) also premiered some of their original production at the event.

Oakland-born, NY-resident Rich Nitty (@Richnitty) traveled nearly two hours from NYC to grace the Philly Sound Sessions stage. He shared with the crowd an anecdote of how, because of his full beard, most cats get him assume he's from Philadelphia. However, the Cali native performed tracks that paid homage to his California roots and the grittiness of his New York City residence. T-Kane (@T_Kane), female MC from Chester, also performed.

Many exciting people attended the event and many connections were made among performers, attendees, and other creatives in the crowd.

Happy New Year! Stay tuned to see what #PhillySoundSessions have in store for 2014.
